米コネクティカット州で2人の少年が音楽ゲームに興じていたところ、付近に落ちた雷で感電したという出来事を、地元ニュースサイト“Wilton Villager”が報じた。
 報道によれば、同州ウィルトン市において雷雨となった2007年6月7日（木）、Bergin家の兄弟Ben君（19歳）とChris君（14歳）は、米国で大人気のPlayStation 2ソフト『Guitar Hero II』をプレイしていた。同ソフトは、ギターの形をしたコントローラを用い、画面に合わせてボタンをタイミングよく押していくことで、ロックスターの気分が味わえるという音楽ゲーム。2人は、ポリス（スティングがボーカルを務めていた英国のロックバンド）の名曲「Message in a Bottle（孤独のメッセージ）」を演奏していたという。
このとき突然、家の近くに雷が落ちた。高圧電流は屋内配線にも伝わり、ギターのコントローラを持っていた2人は吹っ飛ばされて床に倒れた。落雷地点はかなり近く、2人と同様に屋内にいた母親のNikkiさんも「これまでの人生であんな大きな音を耳にしたことはない」と言うほどだった。倒れた兄弟は何が起きたのか見当もつかなかったらしく、Chris君は「僕は何か物で叩かれたと思って、兄さんのほうを見やったんだ」と語っている。
その後、消防車と救急車が駆けつけたが、2人には特に怪我はなかった。ただし、コントローラはすっかり焼けて使い物にならなくなってしまった。Nikkiさんは、今回の出来事はゲームに特別な原因があるのではと心配したそうだが、消防士から、こういった感電事故はどんな電気製品を扱っていても起こりうることだと説明を受けたという。ともかく、大事には至らなかったようで何よりである。
