ネット上に出没したエイプリルフールのゲームネタ |

欧米のゲーム業界には茶目っ気にあふれた人が多いようで、毎年エイプリルフールの時期になると、ニュースサイトの記事にジョークネタが頻発する。今年は4月1日が日曜日だったせいか（あるいは、さすがに自粛ムードが広がったのか）、例年に比べると少しおとなしい気がするのだが、それでもいくつか面白ネタが見つかったので紹介しよう。
まずは、ファンタジー小説「指輪物語」の世界を舞台にしたオンラインRPG『LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE: SHADOWS OF ANGMAR』のネタ。開発元のTurbine社は、白いウールの帽子をかぶった新種族“Smeorufolc”の導入を公式サイトで発表した。好物のキノコを食すと肌がブルーに変わるというのだが、画像を見てもわかるように、どう見てもこれ、漫画キャラクタの“スマーフ”にそっくりである。
次は、ゲーム関連のブログサイト“Game Stooge”から。「『HALO』シリーズは3作目で完結する」と明言していた開発元のBungie社が、三部作の前史にあたる『HALO ZERO』を発表したという記事が掲載された。新作は、『HALO 2』の宣伝キャンペーンに登場した数人のティーンエイジャーが主人公となり、タクティカルシューティングとRPGを組み合わせたゲームになるという（もちろんウソです、念のため）。
 最後に、コンピュータオタク向けのサイト“ThinkGeek”より。Wiiリモコンで腕が疲れてしまった人に向けて“Wiiヘルメット”の記事が掲載されている。これは、ヘルメットにWiiリモコンを装着してかぶり、頭をせっせと振りながらプレイするもの。同サイトによれば、首の筋肉を動かすほうが、腕を動かすときに比べてエネルギー消費は68％も抑えられるのだという（本当に？）。前面に並んだ4つのLEDが、それっぽくてなかなかの出来である。
